Trace the Vikings in Northern Europe

Vikings are a Nordic people, which became strong in the 8th century in the "old continent". Whether they were merchants, sailors, pirates or warriors, they were all very skilled at navigating and fighting, often referred to as the "travelling warriors" of the sea. Along with the growth of the Vikings, cultural and historical works are also scattered everywhere in the cold northern region. 


1. Viking Ship Museum, Norway 

The most complete collection of Viking artifacts is located at the biker clothing  Viking Ship Museum, in Oslo, Norway. Here, visitors can admire the Oseberg ship, typical of the good sailors of any year.


2. Trelleborgen, Sweden 

The small town of Trelleborgen in Sweden attracts visitors with its ancient Viking fortress. The fortified fortress is located on the top of a hill, simulating the form and architecture of Viking settlements. This destination is only a few hours drive from Stockholm.


3. Birka Islands – Hovgarden 

The best preserved Viking settlement is in the beautiful Birka-Hovgarden archipelago. With the Viking houses, doors, utensils, and artifacts stored and repaired extremely well, this place has been honored as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO. 


4. Nærøyfjord, Norway

Nærøyfjord is also a UNESCO-recognized Viking site. This place not only possesses ravishing natural beauty, but is also considered the cultural center of the Vikings in its heyday. 


5. L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland, Canada

This archaeological site is one of the few remaining Viking ruins outside of Northern Europe. L'Anse aux Meadows is considered the place where a small number of Vikings came to female death tattoo  establish villages and settle. Today, visitors to Newfoundland can visit Viking homes, perfectly restored to every detail in the Lord of the Rings movies, located in the cultural park L'Anse aux Meadows.


6. Statue of Leif Ericson, Iceland 

Standing just outside Reykjavik's most famous Hallgrimskirkja church, Iceland's capital, is a statue of Leif Ericson, a Viking who is said to have discovered America even before Columbus.


7. Dublinia, Ireland 

Dublinia is not only a destination for those who love to admire the old Viking houses and boats, but also for those who like to meet the descendants of the Vikings, with all the familiar features described in books: red hair and freckles spots.
